Not sure if talking about stuffs in Gokusen entails glorifying feminism. Rather than taking the biologically unsound men-is-not-necessary stance, H's style veers closer to agitating for vending machines selling used Japanese boys' school uniforms (oh, those collars! those button-down dark jackets! they never fail to get me off! hee hee heee - somebody please tell me they already exist - the vending machines, not the uniforms nor the boys ^^). Okay. Some background to Gokusen: Yankumi is the heir to a small but respected Yakuza concern, whose nominal head, for some unknown reason, has always been males who married into the clan (i.e., chosen by the daughter). The only exception was Yankumi's mother, who eloped with one humdrum civil servant type. Yankumi, more accepting of the family business than her mother, is also more subtle at expressing her desire to walk her own path - she became a teacher.
There. Let us continue where mikeneko left off with the Gokusen scans. Sawada Shin, Yankumi's student was told off for his attempt at superseding Teach as the first guy to rush in during a rescue operation. (Shin, Shin, chivalry aside, didn't you ever read Troy? Also, didn't you know that elders have the right of way?)
This poor high school kid was shot down, loud and clear, by beloved Teach's cliched admonishment ("you are one hundred years too early"). 'Tis hard to be young and in love, especially when Teach is also a top hand at street-fighting, not to mention that there is a formidable rival in sight: theevilly good-looking consigliere, Shinohara. While we are here, the imaginary rape scene which occurs after Yankumi's henchmen ask her if they should hold Sensei down - that is the thing I had been waiting to read - to see - to hear - in manga, novels, drama, anything - all my life. For I have always held the right to be perverse and lecherous as a marker of equality (whatever that is). The world has arrived! I have arrived! Wait, not yet. Salvation will not arrive until we can be bald and paunchy and smoke cigars and still expect instant erection the moment we wave lighted greenbacks at those nubile young things....
So what could Shin do? Yankumi obviously is not seeing him as a Man, unlike the way she goes puppy-eyed at Shinohara. Well, there is always the fundoshi.
This thing can put away ninety-five years....
And so, desperate to win Teach's hand, Shin dons the fundoshi.
The gamble pays off!
Yankumi's dilemma: The promising future clan head or the present consigliere?
Moral of the story: When in doubt, remember that lust sells. Both ways.
