I never tire of receiving short text messages from Auntie Stripey (that's The Auntie), SMS being our sole mean of non-verbal communication whenever she is not staying with any of her connected offspring (where is the promised notebook, Auntie Stripey?). She has more emoticons than even the hippiest 16-year old on teh 'Net. Here, let me treat you to a few selected samples.

/^*^\ --- Hikaru no Go's Fujiwara no Sai?
d^_^d --- Uh, double thumbs-up?
b^_^b --- Leftie version of above?
J'.'J --- I don't know what this is, Mom.
C^.^C --- Ditto
['.'] --- the alternative version of your usual (^_^) I suppose
W'.'W --- Hurrah?

In the main news, Auntie Mischievious finally decided on Germany, no thanks to Auntie Smokey's biased advice against Trinity. Unlike our Auntie Bow-wow (who is a sad case of neuroticism and untempered diffidence, so unlike her fellow canines!), Auntie Mischievious rarely asks for advice of any kind from us siblings. In fact, Auntie Mischievious makes more decisions (especially for the lazy Auntie Stripey) than she ever asks for one. Therefore, I, Auntie Smokey, did not waste this golden opportunity to indulge my wanky nature and immediately composed a long, long reply. Auntie Woolly, being her usual taciturn self, gave a more helpful, and much more succinct, counsel: "Three years are not enough to do a good PhD."

( Useless advice on choice of university to do your PhD at )

So my coming jaunt back home marks the last time we will hold karaoke sessions at Red Box before she leaves for Germany. I forgot to add in my advice: Dear sibling creature, from now on, your name is not [Surname]-[Generational-Identifier]-[Personal-Indentifier]. It is know [Generational-Identifier]-[Personal-Indentifier]-[Surname]. I think currently the website of her future research group lists her name in the former format, which is used only in Banana Federation and Little Red Dot.

In the other news, Auntie Woolly is due to return to Banana Federation soon, where for seven years she will be indentured to the most backward technological university this side of the hemisphere. There is not even a Leah at the end of the seven years, so I wonder about the point. (Not that we have not dropped a hint or two about trashing the contract and staying on in Japan - but no! Woolly, you see....) I begrudge the Banana Federation even the meagre talents of my father's offspring. And, to hell with false humility, let me say this: I don't want us to end up like Zhuge Liang and Zhuge Jin, siblings doomed to a lifetime of serving different (and sometimes directly opposing) concerns/nations.

p/s: Sorry dianna_wills, I was just kidding when I gave you that Internet Disease. I am really a boy. Really.
