I miss DWJ and are there any others out there like her?

Having regurgitated the final (really, really final) version of the manuscript and irresponsibly sent it to the supervisors for dictations comments (yes, like I'd ever find their comments useful [0]), I finally have the most precious of the precious: Free Time which is longer than one hundred and twenty five minutes!

So, what do I propose to do with it?

------------------------

I have read all the DWJ books available in the library here. So I thought, are there any other similar authors? Fantasy, dry but kind humor, loads of cultural/mythical references (it is fun just to test how smart anal-retentive one is), a who-dunnit theme running throughout the book, slush that makes you think and not roll your eyes. (Of course, the list of characteristics is not complete. Fellow DWJ fans, share in the squee and help me expand it!)

Heeding some of the ultimate recommendations, I made a dash to the library before the lazy staff shut down for lunch and acquired a book by Robin McKinley and another (insurance! kiasu people always get an insurance! [1]) by Philip Pullman. I can't wait to lay my paws on those crackling dead trees tonight!

[0] Which is like not-finding sausages in curry rice in this Odin-forsaken place. Haha.
[1] Wiki-whore kisses Ah Beng ass! Congratulations to my future employer! You get an anti-intellectual research fellow; not to mention a shallow and materialistic employee who will not hesitate to practise fiction writing while filling up grant applications. All ends justify all means!
